"I oppose the recently adopted 2025 Port Townsend Comprehensive Plan amendment. As written, it is likely to encourage the demolition of existing housing, including historic structures, and replace it with large, luxury multifamily buildings without parking or setbacks in established residential neighborhoods, while failing to deliver any significant low- or moderate-income housing.

I urge the City Council to pause implementation of the Comprehensive Plan amendment and revise it through a renewed and transparent public process. This process must address the lack of affordable housing, especially for households below median income.

I support increased residential density when it is thoughtfully planned. Increased density should be clearly tied to the creation of housing that is affordable to low- and moderate-income residents, located in areas with adequate infrastructure to support growth, and designed in a way that respects and preserves the character of existing neighborhoods."
